Arthritis

Arthritis & Joints: Arthritis - a general term for many conditions, but essentially means ?joint inflammation? and usually involves pain, stiffness and some loss of function. Among the most common varieties are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and reactive arthritis. Though not curable, arthritis can be managed and the pain eased. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and develops as a result of joint cartilage wearing away, inducing swelling and deformity as well as diminishing the range of movement possible. Rheumatoid arthritis causes stiffness (especially in the mornings), swelling, and, often, crippling pain. It may also cause fatigue, anaemia and weight loss. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder resulting in inflammation of the tissues in and around the joints.

Clinic trials of natural products have proved very successful in alleviating arthritis. Glucosamine can help reduce pain and inflammation and is specific for osteoarthritis. Fish oils help to reduce inflammation in rheumatoid patients and an extract from mussels has been shown to be a potent and very safe anti-inflammatory for all types of arthritis.
